Joey Lawrence Guest Stars on Csi: Ny

28th March

It looks like Dancing with the Stars bears out its reputation as a makeover vehicle for celebrities who are seeking various ways to rejuvenate and reinstate themselves in the limelight. The newest addition to the “has been” celebrities that have been graced with the program’s healing powers is none other than former teen heartthrob Joey Lawrence. According to TV Guide, Lawrence got an acting gig on a forthcoming episode of CSI: NY.

The upcoming episode, which is entitled Past Imperfect, will showcase Lawrence as a killer named Clay Dobson. Filming this episode is especially memorable for Lawrence since he has never done anything like it before in terms of portraying the character and getting involved in a different kind of fight scene. He told TV Guide, “They had like 15 cameras up there, and we had to shoot all the fight sequences in one day. It was really incredible.

It took us like three hours to set up one shot that lasted, like, 10 seconds. But it was a good time, and it’s going to set up a good cliffhanger for the end of the season. It’s good for Gary, too, because Mac ends up in some hot water.” Past Imperfect is scheduled to air on April 25, 2007 at 10 pm on CBS.

Meanwhile, the actor credits a lot of his positive exposure on his inclusion on Dancing with the Stars season three. In fact, if asked to appear again on the show, he would most likely accept the invitation.

Lawrence, a 30-year old native of Abington, Pennsylvania, was best known for his inclusion on the television show Blossom. His TV credits included Gimme a Break!, American Dreams, Brotherly Love, Run of the House, Who’s the Boss, and Adventures in Babysitting. He also graced the movie world with films like Do You Wanna Know A Secret, Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber and Tequila Body Shots among others. In the wake of his success as a teenage heartthrob, he recorded and released his debut album entitled Joey Lawrence, in 1993. He joined the popular celebrity dance competition Dancing with the Stars in 2006 and ranked third place with professional dance partner Edyta Sliwinska.

Shall We Dance? at Barnes and Noble

Shall We Dance? at Barnes and Noble

Comedy – general DVD – Hardworking lawyer John Clark (Richard Gere) has a loving family, a beautiful home, and a rewarding job — but he finds himself bored nonetheless. Becoming entranced by daily glimpses of a dance instructor (Jennifer Lopez) he sees every night from his commuter train, John finally decides to take up ballroom dancing and, as a result, finds himself drawn into a second family, the existence of which his wife, Beverly (Susan Sarandon), is entirely unaware. This enchanting remake of the 1995 Japanese film — an art-house hit in America — works because director Peter Chelsom is so adept at leading his viewers down the garden path. Initially, we are led to believe that Clark’s sole reason for enrolling in the dance school is to wangle an introduction to the Lopez character, but we learn that he’s not necessarily looking for an extramarital affair. When we first hear about an upcoming dance competition, we immediately think, Aha, that’s the big emotional set piece. But the contest doesn’t unfold as one might suspect, and its relationship to the film’s narrative is far different than anticipated. The supporting characters are a predictably diverse and eccentric lot, but they interact in unexpected ways, which confounds viewer expectations and keeps the movie interesting. Chelsom deserves a lot of credit for avoiding the obvious, especially in the matter of Lopez’s dance instructor. She’s neither a diva nor a traditional love interest; if anything, she’s a catalyst for the changes Gere’s character undergoes as he searches for a little excitement in his pleasantly humdrum life. Shall We Dance wasn’t a big box-office success, perhaps because it wasn’t the cookie-cutter romantic comedy many people expected. But in our book, that’s a plus. – Shall We Dance? at Barnes and Noble

Has Anybody ever been in a I Love Dance dance competition?

28th March

I Love Dance as in the competition for kids around ages 3-18, with Kim Mckimmie…If so, what are your opinions on it?

I do believe I went to one my senior year of high school. It was extremely small and there wasn’t a whole lot of amazing talent there. My studio won a lot of top awards at the I Love dance competition, but we usually won high silver, gold or high gold at other various competitions. I really wasn’t too pleased with it, but we signed up for it at the last minute so we would have a third competition to compete at. It was held in a hotel ballroom and the ballroom floor was uneven and had cracks all over the place.

I guess the whole competition ran pretty smoothly, but, in my opinion, I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re completely serious about competing. This one’s more about the fun aspect rather than the competition and learning experience. :)

Dance competitions in Singapore or Malaysia during summer 2008?

28th March

I know about the CSTD Asia-Pacific dance competition but that is only for dancers who are registered with schools who have conducted CSTD examinations.

Does anyone know of any competitions open to teens that accept dancers who are not affiliated with any studio? Please?

Thanks! :)

There's the High School Musical My School Rocks Dance competition.. Go to www.disneychannel-asia.com for more details..

Need to Know Information When Becoming a Singer

26th March

You love singing and know that you are destined to become a singer. You admire popular artists and wish your music could also be recognized. This has been a dream of yours since you can remember. Well, the good news is that you can achieve your dreams. All it takes is some hard work, goal setting, and a little luck.

Here is some information that will help you learn what you need to know to become a singer.

Develop your Voice. Without excellent vocal skills, your career will not amount to much. Practice as much as you can and work with a vocal coach. You will need to find a coach who understands your musical style and your goals and will also push you and challenge you. The goal is to turn you into not only a technical artist, but help you develop your potential.

Your Personal Style. When working with your vocal coach and practicing your voice, some attention should be paid to developing your personal style. If your goal is to sing jazz, learn technical jazz style singing but also learn to put your own special mark on the songs.

Write Some Music. Another essential step is to write some music, or have someone else write it for you if you don’t have a particular talent for it. You can also work with someone who will help you get your ideas down and set them to music. Your goal is to write or help develop a collection of songs to perform and record.

Learn to Perform. Another essential step is to learn how to perform. When recording in the studio, you can easily cover up any flaws in your voice or in the music. If you mess up, you can start again. It takes a truly great singer to wow the audience while playing live. Resist the urge to lip synch. Though an astonishing number of performers do this, it is very hard to gain respect as an artist if you do this.

Get Even More Experience. Besides performing your own songs, it might be a great experience to join a chorale group, choir, or other singing ensemble to get more experience. A benefit to this is that you can learn how to interact with other singers and learn new songs and different techniques.

Record your Music. When you feel confident that you have mastered your songs, it is time to find a studio and some musicians to record your music. Depending on your goals, you can either put together a CD and sell it yourself or use this studio time to create a demo. Find someone to work with who understands your genre and has a track record for success.

Enter Contests. Entering contests and competitions is another great way to get exposure. These contests can really draw attention to your talent, especially if the contest is fairly big. Check your local area, any nearby cities, and watch for other events that may be televised. Agents and other industry professionals may lurk at these events, looking for the newest talent.

Don’t Give Up. Unless you are extremely lucky from the beginning, you will probably face rejection from time to time. You may not win every contest you enter. In fact, you may not win any. Your demo may get lost in the mail or you won’t get any responses. Don’t give up. Success could be just around the corner and you won’t know this if you don’t stop trying.

Learn Other Skills. Depending on what style of singing you want to do, you may need to learn other skills. Pop singers need to learn how to dance. Folk singers should learn how to play the guitar. You may also want to learn the piano or electric guitar. Spend time working on these things without neglecting your voice- your true goal.

Find an Agent or Manager. It may also be worth your while to find an agent or a manager. They can help you get gigs, submit your demo to producers, and in general represent you. This can be very helpful because a lot of managers and agents have industry contacts. Just be careful to choose one that is sincere about their interest in you.
